Baby Jesus Felt Sewing Pattern | Behind the Scenes of My Nativity Series
I’m so excited to share that my Mary sewing pattern is now available in my Etsy shop! As much as I love designing these patterns, my favorite part is imagining someone else sitting down and enjoying the creative process. That’s why I do this. I want to create sewing experiences that are just as rewarding as the finished project itself.

Releasing that first pattern feels like a huge accomplishment. One by one, the pieces of this felt nativity are coming together and today I’m excited to introduce the tiniest member of the collection… Baby Jesus!
He’s wrapped in his little swaddle blanket and tucked into a handmade manger. I wanted him to feel simple, peaceful, and just a little bit sleepy. Those tiny features might have been the smallest face I’ve ever done, but somehow he ended up being one of my favorite pieces so far.

The manger turned out to be a fun little engineering project. It’s made with stiffened felt and pipe cleaners, which makes it surprisingly sturdy while still looking rustic. The straw is just fringed felt, but once it was all tucked into the manger, it completely transformed the piece. Sometimes it’s the simplest details that end up making the biggest difference.

Of course, not everything has gone exactly according to plan.
While Baby Jesus came together without much drama, Joseph has been keeping me busy. I’ve rebuilt his body… not once, not twice, but four times! Every version taught me something, but none of them captured the gentle, humble look I had in mind. Designing an original pattern means there’s a lot of trial and error, and sometimes the only solution is to start over.
The good news is that I’m finally happy with him. He’s in the “fine-tuning” stage now, and I can’t wait to share him with you soon.
One of the things I’m enjoying most about this project is watching these tiny pieces slowly become a complete nativity. With every new figure, the story grows a little richer, and it’s incredibly rewarding to see ideas take shape.
I hope you’re enjoying following along behind the scenes as much as I’m enjoying creating them. Next up… Joseph! (Assuming he doesn’t decide he needs a fifth makeover.)
Happy stitching!
